Some people love their hairdressers, others their massage therapists or pilates coaches. At Fleming Design, we love our lawyer. Yup, you heard it here. We write him our cheques for services performed and don’t begrudge him a cent. Why? Because he really is a ‘partner’ in our business in the truest sense. Protecting us against the evil-doers out there who would not have our best interests at heart. Straightening out prickly employee situations or helping us get the talent we need when we need it. Whatever the call, Chris Bennett, intellectual property and technology law specialist, and partner with Davis LLP is there to help us figure things out. Best of all, he’s a bona fide geek. He’s been editing an informative tech newsletter called Videogame Report for awhile now, and it makes for great reading on our related industries. But now, he’s gone truly into geekdom at its best. He’s hung his shingle in the virtual world of Second Life – Davis LLP is the first Canadian law firm to open a virtual office in this three-dimensional online world, which includes a library with legal information, a recruiting centre, and a secure boardroom. “Infringing activity online is as brand-destructive and confusing to the public as real life infringement,” says Chris.  Visit Davis LLP on Second Life, say hi to Chris… and definitely read about lawyers and Second Life in this great article in Canadian Lawyer Magazine.
