If you’re passionate about pedaling around town or ripping down trails on two wheels, you’ve no doubt heard that Mountain Equipment Co-op has launched its own line of bikes. What you might not know is that Fleming Design was asked to develop an overall design concept and direction for the MEC bike brand, and then design individual bike graphics that would fit within the overarching MEC brand. For Fleming’s diehard cycling enthusiasts (we have several), a project doesn’t get much better than this!

After months of client collaboration – and getting a look at some early prototypes – we proposed several possible design directions for the bike graphics. Some incorporated a more contemporary design approach, and some included an organic, illustrative style which designer/illustrator Ian Hoffman brought to life. We also designed the MEC Ride wordmark that appears on all the bikes, various other decals and graphics, and proposed colour palette options for each of the twelve launch bike models.

Over a year in the making, it’s been a fascinating design ‘ride’ and gratifying for all of us to see the final bike designs rolled out.
