Fleming Turns 25!

This month Fleming Creative Group, Fleming Design’s parent company, celebrates 25 years in business! While most days it feels like we opened our doors only yesterday, it was back in 1983 when found Doug Fleming first hung out his shingle as a one-man, then two-man shop, ready to take on complex production jobs.
Turning around labour-intensive projects like daily ad resizes for a national electronics retail chain and vacation travel catalogues for Fiesta West and Canada 3000 helped grow the business and build Fleming’s reputation as a service-oriented design house with a ‘can-do’ attitude.
In 1991, Doug looked to expand the firm’s design services, adding concept and copy to the mix. Corporate communicator Catherine Winckler incorporated her business into FCG and Blair Pocock, who was already with Fleming as Senior Designer, joined Doug as partners. FCG grew to offer a full range of in-house services including branding and corporate design, interactive entertainment, and real estate marketing through three operating divisions: Fleming Design, Switch Interactive, and Design for Real Estate.
By 2006, our multi-disciplinary studio had grown to 30, precipitating the purchase of a new corporate building in a thriving new area of the city, just blocks from the future Athletes’ Village for the 2010 Winter Olympics. Two years on, the new digs feel like home and our three divisions are buzzing with an exciting variety of projects.
Throughout it all, we’ve had (and continue to have) amazing clients and the very best employees, past and present. Thank you all for the role you’ve all played in our success. We’re looking forward to many more years of telling “the story through design.”
