Bike to Work Week
Tuesday, June 03, 2008
The FCG Two-Wheelers hit the road for Bike to Work Week, put on by the Vancouver Area Cycling Coalition. While a lot of us pedal to work on a fairly regular basis, five us decided to make a commitment – rain or shine – for the week. We mapped our routes and tracked our kilometres on the BTWW website – and figure we offset 64.7 kilograms of carbon.
At least one of us (me) was a bike-commuter novice. I took the West 10th Ave route, and thoroughly enjoyed seeing fellow cyclists out en masse, feeling the crisp spring air as I rolled along, and not having to travel on a hot, crowded bus. Plus, picking up a bagel and juice at the commuter station at 10th & Cambie was a tasty way to start the day!
On Wednesday, Murray, Felix, Christine, and I did an après-work bike ride along the seawall through False Creek, Yaletown, and right around Stanley Park. The weather was perfect and we ended up having dinner on the beach at English Bay, watching the sunset over the ocean. Definitely, a lovely way to unwind after work!
