Things got hairy around here last month. Literally. In support of the global fundraiser known as “Movember,” there was some serious moustache (aka ‘mo’) growing going on here at Fleming. Check out the results here…
Every month, the editors at HOW magazine choose the Top 10 Sites for Designers - sites that are considered to be fantastic resources or just plain cool. This month, HOW selected the personal website of Felix Heinen, one of Fleming’s senior designers and our intrepid blogger, to appear on their list. Way to go Felix!
The 2010 Olympic graphic identity and pictograms were unveiled yesterday in Vancouver. Overall the system is very comprehensive and impressive. From the west coast colour palette to the wonderfully detailed pictograms, the entire system sets us apart. They have also created a short behind-the-inspiration movie talking about the design team’s process and inspiration. You can view it here
Last night, a group of us attended Peace it Together 2008’s World Premiere Film Screening held at the Stanley Theatre in Vancouver. Wow! What an evening! We were treated to eight short films created by 30 Palestinian, Israeli, and Canadian youth during this summer’s Peace it Togther camp held on Bowen Island. But we were also treated to something more - messages of hope, inspiration, and transformation from the youth themselves.
Hey you! Did you know there are some items you shouldn’t throw in the garbage? Things like batteries, paint, fluorescent tubes, and CFL bulbs (when they eventually burn out). That’s because they contain hazardous wastes that can leak in landfills and contaminate nearby soils and water systems. To help accommodate one of the more common of these products, we’ve expanded our recycling to include batteries. If you’ve got batteries at home you need recycled, bring ‘em in and we’ll make sure they’re disposed of safely, while saving you a trip to the disposal plant.
Note: RECHARGABLE batteries can be dropped off at MEC, Canadian Tire, or Home Depot for safe disposal.
Since our “going green” announcement in April, we’ve been charging ahead with our slate of eco-initiatives. So far, it’s been a relatively easy transition…as long as sharing quarters with hundreds of ravenous creepy crawlers doesn’t phase you! Yep, that’s right - we’ve started vermicomposting at FCG.
